Spring Term 2019

On Monday 1st April, the school’s winning Sportshall Athletics team made the journey to Derby University to take part in the County Finals. It was the first time that they had experienced a full competition this year and could not have given more effort. They displayed fantastic teamwork, determination and respect throughout the whole day and finished a respectable 6th in the county. Well done. We’re very proud of you and your achievements.

Towards the end of March, a group of our Year 3 & 4 children went to St Marys High School to take part in a Netball Festival. They were joined by children from St Marys Primary. The children did a series of drills which allowed them to practise their throwing, catching, aiming and dodging skills before putting them to good use in a game.   It was a great event which showed off the children’s stamina. Two hours of intensive netball left everyone tired. Thank you to the Sports Partnership for organising this after school event.

On Monday 4th March, nearly all of Diamond Class and a few of Sapphire, went to the Small Schools Sports Hall Athletics competition at Queens Park Sport Centre. As no other schools were taking part, we had the opportunity to have our own school competition. The children were split into three teams and took part in a range of running and field events. At the end of the competition, the results were announced and it was a Cutthorpe clean sweep: Gold (Orange Team), Silver (Purple Team) and Bronze (Yellow Team).  It was brilliant to see everyone giving their all, pushing themselves and, in some cases, trying something new for the first time. Well done!

Just before February half term, the Reception and Year 1 children went to Outwood Academy to take part in an Early Racers event with other local schools. The children were put into teams and moved around the hall doing a range of different bike related activities. Take a look at the photos to see what we did. Everyone had great fun on the balance bikes!

On Monday 28th January, a group of 12 Year 5/6s took to the basketball courts of St Marys. Split into 2 teams, the children played teams from Holymoorside and Barlow. All the children gave their all and showed a massive improvement as the competition went on. We finished a very respectable second and fourth place. Well done to everyone who took part.

On Monday 21st January, Mrs Wright, Mrs Hemsley and three of the Year 6 children attended the Chesterfield Sports Awards at Brookfield. Our first success was as a result of last year’s Sports Hall Athletics team, who came second in the county final. They won the award for Primary Team Achievement. Secondly, Jasmine received Young Sports Woman due to her football achievements. Finally we also received our Gold Award for 2017/18. Well done to everyone!!
