On Wednesday 19th June, 10 children from Diamond Class took to the netball court at Old Hall for a friendly match. It was a glorious afternoon and the children were fantastic despite having very little practice in the run up. Well done everyone.
On Friday 7th June, fortunately the weather held until lunchtime and Diamond and Sapphire classes were able to enjoy the sporting element of School Games Day. In mixed teams, the children took part in a carousel of Rounders, Golf and Boccia games. We had a massive focus on the school games values of Determination, Honesty, Self-Belief, Teamwork, Respect and Passion and the children displayed these in abundance throughout the morning as can be seen by the wealth of stickers awarded. Fingers crossed for some drier weather on the 21st June so that we can complete the event!!
On Thursday 6th June, 19 children from Years 4-6 spent a lovely day at Cutthorpe Cricket Club for the Kwik Cricket Tournament. Split into two teams, the children took part in a round robin format: Mrs Shaw’s team won two out of four of their games and Mrs Wright’s team won all of their games including a very close and tense game against Walton Holymoorside which meant they got through to the semi-final. Unfortunately they narrowly missed out on getting through to the final. It was a beautiful day and it was a delight taking the children – they all demonstrated lots of spirit and were fantastic ambassadors for the school.
On Wednesday 22nd May, just before the holiday, the whole school embraced Travel Smart Week with a walk from Holmebrook Valley Country Park. As you can see it was a slightly grey morning but that didn’t dampen spirits!! A massive well done needs to go to the three Year 1 boys who not only walked to school, but did this after walking down from school first! Thank you to the Travel Ambassadors for promoting active travel through this event and also through encouraging children to travel on scooters and bikes too.
On 21st May, 12 children from Years 4-6 took to the field at Barlow to take part in a Level 2 Cyclo Cross competition against Barlow. The children were split into three teams and took part in a range of races around the field. As always it was a fast, furious and fun event and the teachers are gearing up for their own team next year!! Well done everyone.
During the afternoon of Wednesday 15th May, all of Diamond Class took to the field for a Level 1 Kwik Cricket competition. In pairs, the children tested out their batting and fielding skills. The following pairings topped the batting scores from each group: Freddie & George, Alfie & Leo and Virginia & Jasmine. In the bowling, the following pairs came out on top: Oliver & Jasmine, Thomas & Rosie and Olivia & Harriet.
