Cutthorpe Road Safety
Our Commitment to Community Safety
At our school, the safety and wellbeing of our children, families, and wider community sits at the heart of everything we do. We believe that a strong, respectful partnership between the school and the local community is essential in creating an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported. This commitment extends beyond the school gates and into the daily routines of arriving at and leaving school, where thoughtful choices and considerate behaviour make a meaningful difference.
We are fortunate to be part of a community that works together to ensure that children can walk to and from school safely. Many of our families choose to walk, cycle, or scoot, and we actively encourage these healthy and environmentally friendly options. For those who need to travel by car, we ask for care, patience, and respect for our neighbours and for one another. The roads around school can become busy at peak times, and a calm, considerate approach helps keep everyone safe.
We are especially grateful to The Peacock Inn, who generously allow our parents and carers to use their car park during drop‑off and pick‑up times. This kindness helps to ease congestion around the school and provides families with a safer place to park before walking the short distance to the school entrance. In return, we ask all parents, carers, and visitors to park respectfully, follow any guidance provided by the pub, and ensure that their use of the space reflects the appreciation we feel for this ongoing support.
To further support safety on site, the school car park is closed to all parent's vehicles between 8:00–9:00am and 3:00–3:30pm. These times coincide with the busiest periods of the school day, when children and families are arriving or leaving. Closing the car park ensures that the area remains free from moving vehicles, reducing risk and allowing pedestrians to move safely and confidently. We appreciate the cooperation of staff, parents, and visitors in adhering to these restrictions, as they play a vital role in maintaining a secure environment for everyone.
Our commitment to safety is not simply about rules and routines; it is about fostering a shared responsibility. We encourage all members of our community to model safe behaviour, whether that is using designated crossing points, avoiding parking on pavements or yellow lines, or taking a moment to look out for younger children who may be less aware of traffic. These small acts of care contribute to a culture where safety is understood, prioritised, and lived out every day.
By working together—families, staff, neighbours, and local partners—we can ensure that our school remains a place where children feel protected and supported from the moment they leave home to the moment they return. We are proud of the strong relationships we have built within our community, and we remain committed to nurturing these partnerships so that every child can travel to and from school safely and confidently.
Road Safety Working Party
At our school, we are deeply committed to ensuring that every child, parent, and member of our community can travel to and from school safely. To support this, we have established a dedicated Road Safety Working Party, made up of both staff and parents, who meet regularly throughout the year. This group plays an important role in reviewing current practice, identifying potential risks, and exploring new ways to make the journeys around school even safer. Their work includes looking at parking arrangements, pedestrian routes, signage, and opportunities to educate children about safe travel. By bringing together the perspectives of families and staff, the working party ensures that decisions are informed, practical, and rooted in the real experiences of those who use our site every day. We are incredibly grateful to the parents who already give their time to this important work, and we are always keen to welcome new members who share our commitment to community safety. If you are interested in joining the Road Safety Working Party or would like to find out more about what we do, please contact the school office by phone or email. Working together, we can continue to make our school environment as safe and supportive as possible for everyone.
Brake Charity Partnership
We are proud to work in partnership with Brake, the national road‑safety charity dedicated to preventing road deaths and injuries and supporting people affected by road traffic incidents. Brake campaigns for safer streets, promotes responsible driving, and provides vital educational resources that help children, families, and communities understand how to stay safe on the roads. Through this partnership, our school is able to access high‑quality materials, take part in national awareness events, and strengthen our whole‑school approach to road safety. Brake’s mission aligns closely with our own commitment to ensuring that every child can travel to and from school safely, confidently, and with the support of a well‑informed community. We value the expertise and advocacy that Brake brings, and we are pleased to work alongside them as we continue to promote safe journeys for all.
